Notice to Consumer

As required by California law covering Legal Document Assistants. Please read this notice before signing any agreement with us.

  • John Kopilow is not an attorney.
  • Legal Document Professionals & Notary Service is not a law firm.
  • John Kopilow cannot represent you in court.
  • John Kopilow cannot advise you about your legal rights or the law.
  • John Kopilow cannot select legal forms for you.
  • John Kopilow is registered in Contra Costa County, registration number 154. This registration is valid until July 11, 2027, after which it must be renewed. To confirm registration, contact the Contra Costa County Clerk’s Office at 925-335-7900.

Important Notices

  • You should read and understand any service contract in full before signing it, including the kinds of services we can and cannot perform for you.
  • We are not attorneys. We cannot perform the legal services that an attorney performs, and we cannot engage in the practice of law.
  • The county clerk has not evaluated or approved our knowledge, experience, or the quality of our work.
  • We cannot keep your original documents if you request their return, if a service contract is not signed or is terminated for any reason, or after all contracted services have been provided. It is a violation of California law to keep original documents under any of these circumstances.
  • It is a violation of California law for us to make any false or misleading statement to you.
  • We cannot obtain special favors from, and do not have special influence with, any court or state or federal agency.
  • As required by law, we have filed a bond and are registered as a Legal Document Assistant in each county where our principal place of business is located and where we maintain a branch office.

Self-Help Services

What we can do: We can perform self-help services in connection with a legal matter in which you are representing yourself. This includes typing or otherwise completing legal documents that you have specifically selected and directed, providing general published factual legal information that has been written or approved by an attorney, providing published legal documents, and filing and serving legal forms and documents as you specifically direct.

What we cannot do: We cannot provide any self-help service unless you are representing yourself in a legal matter and the service relates to that matter. We cannot engage in the practice of law. This means we cannot give you any advice, explanation, opinion, or recommendation about possible legal rights, remedies, defenses, strategies, or options you may have, and we cannot give any advice, explanation, opinion, or recommendation regarding the selection of forms.

Cancellation

You may cancel a signed service contract for any reason within 24 hours after both parties have signed it. If you cancel within this period, we will immediately refund any fees paid, except for fees for services actually, necessarily, and reasonably performed on your behalf during the 24-hour period, and only if you knew we would perform those services and agreed to them in the contract.

To cancel, send written notice to our business address by first-class mail or hand delivery within the 24-hour period. Cancellation by mail takes effect on the postmark date.

You may also cancel a contract at any time if we fail to give you a copy of the contract before providing services, fail to specify the services and costs in the contract, fail to provide the contract in English and any other language principally used in negotiating it, or if you have legal cause.

Attorney’s Fees and Costs

In the event of a suit for damages arising from a service contract or to enforce any of its provisions, the court may award the prevailing party reasonable attorney’s fees and costs.

Venue

The venue for any action arising out of a dispute between a client and Legal Document Professionals & Notary Service is the California county in which the client has their primary residence.

Notices to Client

You may obtain information from the local bar association or a legal aid or legal services office regarding free or low-cost representation by a lawyer.

You may contact the local police, sheriff, district attorney, or a legal aid or legal services office if you believe you are the victim of fraud, unauthorized practice of law, or other injury.
